Day 299 – Movies, Movies, Movies

moviesI think I’ve mentioned before that my movie education is lacking.  I generally see about two movies a year in the theater and maybe, if I’m lucky, another two movies on video during the year.  So, to add watching 50 movies to my goal list for the year, is really a big deal.  The movies we are watching are on the AFI Top 100 list, we have seen seven so far.  I’ve taken to watching them on Amazon Instant Video through their Prime account.  I really like that.  Prime is my kind of thing, if I can’t shop at a mom and pop store, Amazon is my next bet.  I get free two day shipping and instant video for thousands of movies.

We have watched seven movies from the AFI list so far.  The latest from the list have been Amadeus, Yankee Doodle Dandy and The Philadelphia Story.  None of which I had seen before.  I think it is interesting that two of these were based on historical fiction.  A celebration of two lives that were interestingly parallel.  If you watch Amadeus, about the life and times of Mozart; and Yankee Doodle Dandy, about George M. Cohan you can see some similarities in the methods of song writing for both.  I was fascinated by the talent shown and more impressed by the results.  We are all still singing the songs of George M. Cohan, and of course, Mozart is immortal.

The other offering was The Philadelphia Story, Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart.  How does it get any better than that?  Truly a classic, Hollywood icons all.  I can’t wait to see some more of the classics, some more icons, some more true stars of the silver screen.
